Milk & Sugar, Pontcanna
Milk and Sugar approached us with a clear goal: to breathe new life into their underutilised outdoor café area. The vision was to transform the space into a calming, Scandi-inspired extension of their brand—one that would offer customers a serene and stylish place to unwind, socialise, or work.
THE BRIEF - The existing outdoor area lacked purpose and cohesion. It was underused, exposed to the elements, and didn’t reflect the café’s clean, modern aesthetic. The team at Milk and Sugar wanted a design that felt intentional and inviting—reflecting the simplicity, functionality, and warmth of Scandinavian design.
THE CONCEPT - We developed a minimal, Nordic-inspired outdoor café concept focused on:
Natural textures and soft tones: A restrained palette of pale timber, light concrete, linen, and muted greys created a calm, cohesive base.
Functional simplicity: Minimalist tables and seating were chosen for durability and elegance, with a mix of communal benches and intimate two-seaters.
Layered comfort: Linen cushions, wool throws (seasonal), and softly integrated greenery added warmth without clutter.
Architectural touches: A slimline timber pergola with canvas shade provided structure and comfort while maintaining the open, airy feel.
Lighting: Soft festoon lighting and subtle floor uplights were added to encourage use into the evening.
EXPERIENCE & OUTCOME - The result is a beautifully curated outdoor café environment that reflects Milk and Sugar’s identity—modern, relaxed, and design-forward. The space now offers a seamless flow from the interior to the outdoors, allowing guests to enjoy the same quality of experience whether they’re popping in for a quick coffee or settling in for an afternoon.
The transformation demonstrates how thoughtful, minimal design can elevate even the most overlooked spaces—turning them into vital extensions of the brand.
