From Barn to Bespoke Home: A Modern Transformation in the Vale of Glamorgan

Mike Mitchell approached us with a vision to transform a large, disused L-shaped barn nestled in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan. He needed architectural plans, fresh ideas, and creative inspiration to reimagine the space as a modern, minimalist four-bedroom home that would make the most of its stunning rural setting.

The brief was clear: create a light-filled, contemporary home with clean lines, open-plan living, and uninterrupted panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Our design approach focused on celebrating the barn’s original character while introducing sleek, modern interventions—large glazed openings, vaulted ceilings, and minimalist detailing—to bring in natural light and blur the boundaries between inside and out.

This ambitious project balances rustic charm with architectural simplicity, turning an underused structure into a striking and functional home perfectly attuned to modern rural living.
